Book cover testing
Compare the click, not the opinions
CoverSignal is a managed book cover A/B testing service for authors choosing between two finished designs. The two covers are presented through paid Meta ads under aligned test conditions, and the report compares the response each cover received.
When a cover test is useful
A test is most useful when both options are production-ready and either could plausibly ship. It can support a pre-launch decision, a relaunch, a rebrand, or a disagreement between an author and designer. The comparison is deliberately narrow: it asks which of these two covers earned more initial attention under the test conditions.
CoverSignal is not a cover-design studio, a manuscript review, or a sales forecast. A stronger click-through rate can indicate stronger initial appeal, but sales also depend on the book’s positioning, title, description, reviews, price, audience, and reading experience.
What happens in a standard test
- You provide two finished covers. Both images must represent the same book, and you must own or control the rights needed to advertise them.
- The comparison is prepared. The audience, accompanying copy, schedule, and other controllable settings are aligned so the cover is the meaningful difference.
- Paid ads run on Meta.Actual delivery depends on genre, audience, and ad-auction conditions. No fixed impression count is promised.
- The response is evaluated. The report shows impressions, clicks, and click-through rate for each cover, then states whether one produced a clear lead or the result was inconclusive.
What you receive
- Delivery and click totals for each cover
- Click-through rate for Cover A and Cover B
- A plain-language result: clear lead or too close to call
- Notes explaining the scope and limitations of the comparison
